3rd Week of School- Biology Update

Hello again to all Biology students.  This is just a quick reminder to make sure to turn in the Student/Parent Signed Consent form.  If you did not already turn it in please do so ASAP!  This signed consent form is a “graded” and “required to complete” Biology assignment.  Please feel free to see Mrs. Prochazka for another copy if you lost the original one or print it out from this link: Student/Parent Signed Consent Form

9/2/08- Bioethics WebQuest Online Assignment

Today’s class assignment involves accessing the online textbook website at http://www.classzone.com.  Select high school science as the subject, then select Maryland as the state, and then click on GO.  On the next page select the McDOugal Littell Biology textbook.  Then under Activities (right hand side) select the 2nd option “WebQuests.” Next, Under UNIT 1 select the 1st option “Chapter 1: Bioethics.”  Then read through the assignment using the 4 tabs located at the top of the page.  CW #2 is due by the end of class.  If you are absent… then you have 5 days to make up the missed assignment.  Good luck!

Welcome to our class website!  Today (Friday 8/29/08) all students will have the chance to access the website using wireless laptop computers in the classroom.  Please take some time and check out the website.  Locate the notes, listing of class assignments, premier student awards, and then make sure to post your 1st “blog” response today.  All of the tabs for these assignments can be found above.  It you need to return to the home page just click the 1st tab “Home” and you will return to the starting page.  Finally, I would like to say how happy and excited I am about having you as a Biology student this school year.  Thank you!

2007-2008 Volcano Competition Winner!

Check out the Volcano Competition 1st place winners video (7th period ES) Spring 2008:

1.    Click on “Biology Page” tab on website

2.    Click on red writing for section you want to print    

3.    Pop-up box will appear… select either “open” or “save”… then pick from the following options to print based on which type of document was opened.

4.    If it is a power point follow these directions:

  • Click on “file” (top right corner)
  • Under print what option (at the bottom left) select from the following choices: “handouts” (will print 6 slides on each page), “outline view” (for typed notes with no slides- this option is great for enlarging the print)
  • Change color/grayscale option (at bottom left) to “grayscale” 
  • Save ink- follow these additional steps:                                                             
  • Click on “properties” at top right corner                                                           
  • Select paper/quality tab (at middle top)                                                         
  • Under Print quality (right side) change it to the “Fast Draft” option                                                        
  • Click “OK” (bottom right)                                                          
  • Click “OK” again (bottom right) 

5.    If it is a word document follow these directions:

  • Click on “file” (top right corner) 
  • Scroll down and select “print” 
  • Click “OK” at bottom right corner of pop-up box
  • Save ink- follow these additional steps:

  • Select paper/quality tab (at middle top)                                                         
  • Under Print quality (right side) change it to the “Fast Draft” option
